The One Drop Foundation is ensuring Access to Safe Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene since 2007. We turn water into action

About us

One Drop™ is an international foundation created by Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberté with the vision of a better world, where all have access to living conditions that allow empowerment and development, today and forever. Our mission is to ensure sustainable access to safe water and sanitation to the most vulnerable communities through innovative partnerships, creativity and the power of art. Together with its partners, One Drop brings its unique Social Art for Behaviour Change™ approach to promote the adoption of healthy practices around water, sanitation and hygiene through locally inspired social art programs, empowering the communities to take ownership of the projects over time. For this to be possible, One Drop puts together novel fundraising initiatives supported by a visionary community of partners and donors. One Drop counts over 12 years of turning water into action, with projects that will soon have improved the living conditions of over 2.3 million people around the world.  In 2019, the Foundation was recognized for a second year in a row by Charity Intelligence, this time as one of the Top 10 International Impact Charities in Canada.

We are delighted to highlight the inspiring work of Jesse Everson (Lakos), one of the young ambassadors of our Indigenous Youth, Art, and Water Initiative. Jesse created a captivating short film documenting his journey in Kananaskis, Alberta, during the Youth Gathering we hosted last fall in collaboration with the Centre for Indigenous Environmental Resources, Inc.. In this film, Jesse beautifully captures the stunning landscapes of Kananaskis, a region steeped in both natural beauty and cultural heritage, underscoring the critical role that young Indigenous voices play in preserving these landscapes and traditions.

🙌 🌍Global Hand Hygiene Day 💧👐 Did you know that one in six patients gets infected in healthcare settings, while 61% of healthcare workers neglect essential hand hygiene practices? In reality, access to clean water and sanitation and hygiene infrastructure alone is not enough to foster sustainable behavior changes. Every drop counts in promoting good hand hygiene practices.🙌

Our co-CEO, Lisa Clowery, and our Director of Strategic Partnerships and Government Relations, Lauren Alcorn, had the honor of attending the 7th Water Symposium hosted by the Assembly of First Nations. This event offered crucial insights into issues surrounding water security and sustainability, which are increasingly important given the challenges facing First Nations communities. The right to access safe, clean water and adequate sanitation remains elusive for many First Nations, especially when compared to the general Canadian population. The uncertainties surrounding water and wastewater management make these rights even more critical. Thank you Lisa for sharing your experiences from this event, it's an amazing opportunity for us to learn and collaborate toward a more equitable and sustainable future.

Last week, I had the privilege to humbly attend the Assembly of First Nations 7th water symposium in Ottawa with my colleague Lauren Alcorn (she/her) from the ONE DROP Foundation. Listening to numerous insightful panelists and exchanges, below are some of my key takeaways. It is clear that unlocking funding is crucial, and the development of holistic solutions must be prioritized. Furthermore, it's essential that First Nations communities are empowered to self-govern their water supplies. I ended my second day listening to Dr. Tasha Beeds. Her insightful keynote on the Water Walkers truly underscores the profound impact of grassroots movements in promoting environmental stewardship and cultural reverence. Her discussion of the Water Walkers not only sheds light on their vital role in raising awareness about water conservation but also celebrates their deep spiritual connection to nature. Each step taken by the Water Walkers symbolizes a prayer and a plea for the healing of our water bodies, making their journey a powerful act of both physical endurance and spiritual dedication. This movement exemplifies how integrating traditional knowledge and spiritual practices into modern environmental activism can galvanize communities and foster a deeper appreciation and respect for our natural resources. Thank you 🙏 for this learning opportunity.
